Nippes is Veedelgefühl with everyday life, markets, pubs, and people who don't need to announce every punchline. Köln is less of a backdrop here and more of a lived-in state. Hajo Päffgenrath likes such spaces because they don't have to manufacture encounters artificially. He just gives them a little nudge.
