Alaaf is the Kölsch Karneval cry. It isn't explained; it is shouted. Anyone who shouts it half-heartedly is usually recognized immediately. Hajo Päffgenrath doesn't need constant Alaaf, but he knows the moment when a room needs a collective signal.
